re:creation, subtitled Quantum forgeries and AI parodies, confronts old masters with modern quantum teleportation and machine learning techniques, exploring the concept of original creation in the realms of technology and culture. Maria Kling’s Original Simulation and Roni Kaufman’s Portrait Robot meet in a dialogue of originals and copies, physics and computer science, digital and physical representations.
Original Simulation, by Maria Kling and Ker Siang Yeo with Henry Semenenko, Sam Pallister and quantum teleportation algorithms, asks what it takes for an artwork to be considered an original, and what happens when it is copied, digitized, forged or quantum teleported. Mathematical simulations of quantum teleportation principles were used to teleport artworks onto their respective forgeries; the results can be explored in the virtual gallery or in their physical materialisations. The work was developed in collaboration with the Bristol Laboratory for Quantum Computing.
The exhibition opened with a vernissage from 18:00 and closed with a finissage with music by DJ Siete.
