Welcome to Points of Touch, a tactile exhibition that invites you to remember, to listen, and to search with the skin rather than with sight. The exhibition is created by five artists who, working from different practices in scent, sound, sculpture and installation, have made five works with the ambition of drawing visitor and artwork together in an encounter between memory and sense.
Parallel Collective Gallery has, with support from Region Stockholm and in dialogue with the Swedish Association of the Visually Impaired (SRF), created a curatorial method-development project. The intention is to make an art experience that is accessible to visitors at large, rather than one limited to a specific group. An audio guide accompanies the exhibition, in which the artists describe their material choices and intentions, and its method and findings are gathered in a digital report shared with other art institutions in the region.
Kays Ismail, one of the curators, on the exhibition:
"The exhibition is built for touch from the start, not adapted afterwards. Art does not have to be something you can only look at. The curiosity comes from both of us, from wanting to handle the works in a gallery, to feel the material and understand how something is made. For Kajsa there is also a personal thread: her grandfather, who is visually impaired, took up weaving rugs. Galleries often have a high threshold. We want to lower it."
