Maria Pita Guerreiro’s exhibition ran on live cultures: handblown smiley bowls growing gelatinous films, scoby drinks at the vernissage, and a pun the captions never settled.
Maria Pita Guerreiro works in glass and fermentation, and Happy Gut Feeling put both on the same shelf: handblown vessels that double as living containers, on view from 28 February to 15 March 2025.
The signature work, Smiley Bowl (2024), is a set of handblown glass bowls with an imprint of a smiley face, used at the exhibition as fermentation containers. In the artist’s description, they produce gelatinous smiley films as if a face mask for holistic self-care. Four sizes, from 25 by 14 to 26 by 10 centimetres, priced at 6 000 SEK.
The vernissage served the theme. Scoby drinks were poured in collaboration with Icha Booch: fermentation in the glasses as well as in the glassware.
The captions never quite settled on the name. The announcement card says Happy Gut Feeling; more than one post said Happy Guy Feeling instead, and the pun was left standing. The gallery held open hours Wednesday to Friday 16:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 14:00 to 16:00, and a year later the gut returned at full scale, when Enter Gut turned the whole gallery into a digesting organism for Kulturnatten 2026.
