Nine female creators, a pop-up at Sergelgatan 12, a party at Södra Teatern and, two days after closing, a new address: the January 2023 weeks that turned a project into a gallery.
Scroll to the very bottom of our Instagram and you land in January 2023. Crashtoon Network, the collective’s founding project, was a pop-up exhibition of nine female creators at Sergelgatan 12, by T-Centralen, on view from 20 to 29 January.
The post from 19 January reads: we are dressing the halls at Södra Teatern tomorrow night, come crash the party with us. The next evening the exhibition opened at 18:00 and the party ran at Södra Teatern. One week later, on 28 January, the Drop-Party kept it going. Neither night would have sounded or looked the way it did without Pistonhead Foundation, who sponsored the sound and light equipment. We said stor tack then, and it still stands.
On 31 January, two days after the pop-up closed, came the announcement that mattered most: Crashtoon Network would live on at Parallel Collective’s new gallery at Svartensgatan 10, Södermalm. Ten days of exhibition had turned into an address.
Those weeks set a pattern we have followed ever since: make the room part of the work, invite everybody, and treat the opening as an artwork of its own. Crashtoon Network was the party people were told to crash. They did, and they never left.
